Alsonso Comitini
Project Coordinator

Alfonso is Project coordinator at Use8 - the User Experience Society. With a particular interest for technology, social science and business, he has the essential charisma to lead projects and achieve objectives. He has experience in project management and development of multimedia projects and likes to work in multi-disciplinary teams including Interaction Design, Visual Design and Copy.

Shawn De Freitas
Events and Sponsorship Manager
Shawn is a strategic manager who applies effective planning and the coordination of diverse resources and skill sets to achieve vision. He has a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit which stimulates initiative and "out the box" thinking. He applies this creativity to identifying opportunities for innovation and commercial potential and through creative problem solving finds ways to intersect creative processes with business potential.

Among his achievement he has earned a BSc dbl major in Economics & Management Studies, a Masters in Interaction Media Design and an MSc in Digital Television and Production Management. He has complemented this academic experience with years of work experience in the industry.

Begoña Bagur
Marketing and PR Manager

Begoña is the Marketing Manager of Use8. She holds an MSc in Digital TV Management Production, Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic and Interactive Creativity and BA in Advertising and Public Relations. In terms of relevant experience, Begoña has worked as a project manager in interactive advertising agencies for several years defining, managing and coordinating multimedia projects for clients such as Nike, Universal Studios PortAventura, Danone, Futbol Club Barcelona and the Catalonia Government.

Clare Griffiths
Business Development Manager (Entrepeneurship) - University of Brighton

Clare has two degrees, and has been working in the business support industry for over 5 years in both the public and voluntary sector. Clare is a Steering Committee Member for both the Higher Education Entrepreneurship Group and the East Sussex Enterprise Hub. Clare used to be Chair of an East London social enterprise from 2004 - 6.


She is lead facilitator for all beepurple workshops, manager of the Innovation Awards, and responsible for managing the development of the entrepreneurship agenda at the University of Brighton.

Ken Smith

Ken Smith has a long and extensive career in aviation. After gaining his MBA Finance from Cass Business School, London in 1980, he joined Gatwick Handling as Finance Manager. In 1986 he was founder FD of First Choice Airways and appointed MD of the airline and Main Board of First Choice PLC in 1993. Ken has recently been Chief Operating Officer of easyJet and CEO of NAS in Saudi Arabia.


Ken has held non-executive roles as President of the International Air Carriers Association (IACA), Astraeus Airlines and Audit Chair of ESDW PCT. He is a Board Bank Member of Arts and Business and actively mentors a range of new and small businesses in Sussex.

Jim Christy

Jim started his career with Manpower Services Commission shaping and developing new youth and adult training programmes. He subsequently moved into Economic Regeneration developing pioneering programmes with Sussex TEC which resulted in thousands of young people and adults achieving work based NVQ's across Sussex.


He commissioned early economic research across the West Sussex Coastal strip which triggered the formation of the most successful Business/public sector economic partnerships attracting millions of pounds investment into the Sussex economy.


With extensive experience of business planning, marketing and sales strategies Jim moved into the private sector as a director of a successful distribution company supplying the major utility companies across the UK.


Following the sale of the company and a period of direct consultancy, he became director of the Hastings Enterprise Hub in 2005 which successfully merged into the East Sussex Hub in 2007 raising nearly £5M of investment for SME

Rhodri Alexander
Creative Sector Advisor - East Sussex Enterprise Hub

A recent graduate of the University of Manchester, Rhodri spent his immediate months following education teaching English in China. With a passion for all things creative and particularly the emerging digital media sector, Rhodri joined the East Sussex Enterprise Hub as its Creative Sector Advisor in 2008. Leading the Digital Powerhouse Project, Rhodri has helped to generate a network of companies that require the tailored support that the Hub has to offer. Within the digital project and his wider Enterprise Hub activities Rhodri has gained a valuable insight and understanding of the workings of small and medium sized businesses and the challenges that they face. Throughout his time at the Hub, Rhodri has worked closely with the Use8 team to help them generate the network and organise events, seeing its potential to become a powerful community for this ever growing sector.

Ana Joly
Researcher - University of Brighton
I'm Brazilian and have been studying interactive technologies since 1999 during my first degree. I came to the UK, supported by theEuropean Union, to pursue the MSc Digital Television Management and Production at the University of Brighton. During my master's final project, conducted at the BBC, I evaluated interactive TV services for and with young children. Current, I continue my research on children and digital media on the PhD. I also teach and work as a researcher and freelance consultant on user experience for children.
Heloisa Candello
Researcher - University of Brighton

Heloisa Candello is a PhD student at University of Brighton and is a member of the Interactive Research Group. She has been looking at ways to explore the graphic interaction design issues for audiovisual cultural heritage guides for the casual learner.
